Ritual for the Rainbow is a new short film directed by Sami Sänpäkkilä. It is a story about four preteens who live outside of society’s safety nets due to domestic violence. Ariel, Rupi, Liisa, and Hemmo make a living by shooting rats at a junkyard and collecting empty bottles. They lack role models and authority figures until they meet a Wiccan who organises rituals to teach them confidence and how to combat violence and patriarchy — for a fee, of course.
Produced by Sami Sänpäkkilä and Moderni Kanuuna the short was filmed in summer 2023 and it will premiere at Tampere Film Festival 2024. Tickets are available here: https://tamperefilmfestival.fi/en/programme/national-competition-8-shorts/

Six years on intergalactic highways with computer music’s radical answer to Harry Houdini: the techno warrior Goodiepal.
Over the past 20 years, the self-proclaimed techno-warrior Goodiepal from Aarhus has reinvented both himself and his artistic mission countless times. He is an inventor, artist, bicycle maker, speed talker, hacker and composer of radical computer music: Our man Goodie has many talents! So in six years of his life, one can expect a bit of everything – and that’s literally what we get. From when he bikes to Estonia on the home-built bike rocket Kommunal Klon Komputer 02 to give a speech, to when he ‘moves in’ at the National Gallery of Denmark. And from when he (maybe) borrows half a million kroner from the Ukrainian mafia to sell thousands of LPs with 500 DKK in cash in the cover for just 350 DKK per album, to when he is fired for borrowing and ‘improving’ an expensive supercomputer belonging to the Royal Academy of Music in Aarhus. The avantgarde scene’s answer to Gyro Gearloose is always at it, and always on his way to do something new. But Goodiepal is also a loyal friend, and a devoted boyfriend – and on top of that he lives in the shadow of a hereditary disease, which has driven the men in his family to suicide. Meet the man behind the mystery in a film about a singular person.

Samurai Rauni teaser released!
Rauni Reposaarelainen is an overpowering, alcoholic samurai who sows damage and sorrow in his
surroundings in Meri-Pori, western Finland. A mystical pseudonym “Shametear” makes a contract with the Satakunta Guild of Ninjas in order to assassinate Rauni. Rauni easily survives the assassination attempt and wants to find out who’s hiding behind the name Shametear. This is the beginning of the bloody and absurd road movie in Meri-Pori’s samurai reality.
Following the footsteps of Alejandro Jodorowsky and Emir Kusturica, Samurai Rauni is a surreal and visually beautiful tragicomedy that open-mindedly combines Finnish and Japanese culture with beautiful northern nature. The movie has been produced by Moderni Kanuuna team consisting of people from various backgrounds in music, visual arts, literature, theatre and cinema. Samurai Rauni is the first feature film by Moderni Kanuuna.
